October 31, 1928 ~ August 27, 2016 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Doris Jean Boller was born in Waynesboro, PA, on October 31, 1928 to the late John and Ethel Boller of Thurmont, MD.

She is survived by a brother, J. Ronald Boller and a sister, Janet Boller Heins, both married with children.

Growing up in Thurmont, she attended Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) receiving a BA degree in 1949.  She then worked as a caseworker at Springfield State Hospital in Sykesville, MD, while earning a Master's of Social Work degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

In 1953, Doris moved to Wilmington, DE, to take a position at the Family Society (later Family Services and a succession of other names).  She worked in this agency for 33 years, moving from caseworker to supervisor and then Director of Professional Services, retiring in 1986.

Over the years, Doris' interests were varied and changing, with the one constant being a love of classical music, attending many concerts.  While she was still employed, her vacations consisted of travel within the United States and Canada, frequently with an emphasis on hiking, birding and camping.  After her retirement, she made several trips abroad, mostly to European countries.

Doris was a member and past president of the Delmarva Ornithological Society.  She also volunteered for 17 years in the bird department of the Delaware Museum of Natural History, doing data entry and other needed tasks.

As a resident of Ardentown from 1967 to 2007, she participated in the town government on various committees and served as a Trustee of the Village of Ardentown for six years.

In the late 1990's, Doris became interested in amateur radio, particularly in emergency communications and was licensed in May,1999.  She joined the Chester County ARES-RACES and was active with them for a number of years.

In 2007 she moved to the Kendal Community in Kennett Square, PA. Doris passed away peacefully on August 27, 2016.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Delaware Museum of Natural History, P.O. Box 3937, Wilmington, DE 19807, Attn: Dawn Swartout, Development Director.
