Anna Cloud Obituary

Anna S. Cloud (Betty) passed away Sept 18, 2018 while at Chester County hospital following a short illness.  Betty was the daughter of the late Leroy Strickland and the late Hannah Hannum Strickland, sister to Dorothy Piestrak and the late Lillian (Jean) Beers.

Betty was born April 30, 1926 and was raised in Brookhaven, PA, the oldest of three daughters.  After graduation from Nether Providence (now Strathhaven) High School, she went to work for the American Viscose Corporation.  Despite her beginnings as a simple clerk, she soon discovered that she had an affinity for computers, and was ahead of her time working as a computer operator and programmer in the very early days of computers. She met her future husband George M. Cloud (Martin) when he offered to take her home after they attended a dance together at “The Old Orchard”.

Martin and Betty were married on August 15, 1953, and shared 61 years together until Martin passed away on March 17, 2014.  They had three children Glenn, Cheryl and Dennis. Betty spent most of her time as a stay-at-home mother and wife, while assisting her husband with the operation of a small family business, Cloudland Turkey Farm.  She was active at the local Presbyterian church where she served as Sunday School teacher and Deacon.  She had five grandchildren: Melissa, Christopher, Casey, Jameson and Daniel.

Betty loved animals, and not just the many dogs and cats she had as pets. She had a talking parakeet in her younger years, and later in life she owned a yellow-naped amazon parrot named Bam Bam, which she kept for 35 years. Bam Bam would talk, sing, perform tricks, and would call out to Betty whenever she would leave the room.  Betty also cared for many wild animals that were injured at the farm including turkeys, pheasants, ducks, rabbits, raccoons, and even two baby opossums whose mother had been killed on the road. In her free time, Betty enjoyed painting, sewing, needlework, knitting, Sudoku puzzles, Word Search puzzles, Pinochle, and bowling.
