Devin Kates Obituary

Devin Anthony Kates of Parkesburg passed away at home with his family by his side on Sunday, June 16, 2019.  He was 24 years old.

He was the beloved son of Beth Kates and Matthew DiFiore; brother of Nina, Dominic, Dakota, Brittany, Faith, Tyler, Matthew, Elijah and Josiah; grandson of Eugene Bush, Christine Lord, Dominick DiFiore and Diane DiFiore; step-son of Anthony Kates and Nicole DiFiore.

Devin Anthony Kates was affectionately known by his mama as “Little Man” and to his friends as “DK.”

He graduated from Oxford High School in 2012, where he met many of his lifelong friends along the way. After high school, Devin expressed his passion for building a career by working at Porsche and selling the cars that he loved to drive.

Devin’s dedication to pursue his dreams and overcome any obstacle that came his way is only the beginning of how he inspired the people around him. He took every opportunity that came to him and succeeded at everything to which he put his mind. Devin was eager to learn in the most unconventional ways. Amongst his many talents were playing the piano, guitar, and creating music with his Booku buddies. He lived an active life through skiing, hiking, going to football games with his brother Dominic, painting with his best friend T-Ollie, and being with the love of his life, Samantha Frankosky.

Devin’s vivacious personality shined through his every day life whilst bringing warmth and laughter to everyone that met him. Devin was born with the biggest heart and was viewed as a father figure by his family and many of his friends. He guided his younger sister Nina through life, where he watched her succeed in college. Devin made sure that his younger sister Dakota, always walked around with confidence and felt his protection around her. If anyone needed him, he would be there in a heartbeat. His ability to put his loved ones’ happiness before his own exemplifies the compassionate man that he always strived to be.

In his short 24 years of life, Devin actively made sure that the people he cared about the most were taken care of. As he would always say, he wanted to “provide a life for his mama,” which he achieved through hard work and living life to the fullest. He encouraged his friends and family to go after their dreams, and through his outlandish personality showed that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

Devin lived his life goals by falling in love, living with his best friend in West Chester, adopting his beloved dog Kira, and taking care of whatever his mama needed.

This world was made better by Devin. His ocean blue eyes and contagious smile brought happiness to everyone in his life and will continue to bring joy through memories. It wasn’t so much that Devin was lucky to have us, we were lucky to have him. His courageous life influenced those around him; As he said, “my heart will always beat inside yours.”
