Elisabeth Sophie Kauer (Else) passed away peacefully Sunday, October 29th at her home at Kendal at Longwood, Kennett Square.  Her husband, James Charles and she moved to Kendal last fall after many years in their beautiful home nearby.  She is survived by her children, Julie Kauer of Barrington, RI, Catherine Kauer of Aromas, CA, James Kauer and Suzanne Satterly of Kennett Square and Susanne Kauer and Chad H. Arnold of Berkeley, CA.  Her beloved son, Frederick William Kauer passed away ten years ago.  Elisabeth and Jim have three grandchildren, Samuel James McCormick and Benjamin Kauer McCormick of Barrington, RI and Aya Sofia Arnold of Berkeley, CA. 

A memorial service and reception will be held at 2PM on Friday, November 3, 2017 at Kendal at Longwood, 1109 E. Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be given to Winterthur Museum, where Else was a docent.

Else Kauer was a leader in so many senses.  Her great love for people showed the way to many.  Her positive attitude and focus on the gifts of life every day, taught us how to cope with life’s adventures and misadventures.  Creation was a simple philosophy she lived, and by example we learned its value.  Art was interwoven in her life and therefore in ours: painting, art in many media, language, literature and translation to name few of the arts she practiced.  She taught us the meaning of family, of coming together and this gave us the gift of strength and deep belief in the ability to risk giving love and appreciating others, approaching life with love, and focusing on the positive.
