Margaret S. (Smith) Foulsham



Margaret "Sarge" Smith Foulsham passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Jennersville Hospital after a brief illness.  She was 88 years old.  Born in Wilmington, Delaware, she was the daughter of the late Hobert Smith and Margie Sumner Smith.

She grew up in Granogue and spent a happy childhood there with her two sisters and her brother where they enjoyed fishing, hunting, bike riding and canoeing on the Brandywine.

She graduated from A. I. du Pont High School and attended Goldey Beacom Secretarial School in Wilmington prior to joining the DuPont Company, where she spent nearly 30 years in a variety executive administrative positions.

She married Samuel L. Foulsham in 1951 and they moved to Pittsburgh where Marge continued her career with DuPont while Sam attended Carnegie Tech.  Upon Sam’s graduation in 1954, they relocated back to Wilmington with Marge once again resuming her career with Du Pont, where she worked until 1985.

Marge was a long-time member of Christ Church, having been married there.  She served on the Altar Guild for many years and also the Wedding Committee, Notes of Care, Friendly Freezer, the Christmas Pageant and the Green Show.

She was predeceased by her husband Samuel; her sisters Jean and Lucille, and brother Hobert.

She was the beloved mother of Mark Foulsham (Deborah) of Toughkenamon, PA and Douglas Foulsham (Kimberly) of Houston, TX; grandmother of Grant, Evan, Ali, Grace, Curtis and Blair; Aunt of many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Church Christiana Hundred, 505 Buck Road, Greenville, Delaware on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 2:00 PM.  Burial in adjoining cemetery will be private.

The family would like to thank the Brandywine River Valley Hospice for their care.
