Mary Jane Hofmann Obituary

Mary Jane Hofmann, aged 89, of New Berlin, WI, formerly of Wilmington, DE, passed away on May 28, 2019.  She was the devoted wife of William O. Hofmann, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage and who predeceased her by 6 years.

Mrs Hofmann was born in Kingston PA. With her parents, Donald and Frances, and her brothers Frederick and Donald, she moved to Easton, PA, where her father attended Lafayette college.  The family subsequently moved to East Orange in 1936, and Dayton in 1940.  She graduated from Fairview HS in 1947.  She received her BS degree in chemistry from Bowling Green State University in 1951.

She was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority and the American Chemical Society, who recently honored her for 50 years of membership.  She worked at DuPont Chemical Company as a chemist, research librarian, and as Safety Supervisor at DuPont’s Experimental Station.

She is survived by two children, William D. Hofmann and wife Roberta Welling, of Berkeley, CA, and Ellen Johnson and husband Randall, of Pewaukee, WI; by three grandchildren, Julia Hofmann, Reed Johnson, and Alexandra Johnson, and by brother Donald and wife Doris, from Castle Rock, Colorado.  She was predeceased by brother Frederick MacDougall and wife Ruth of Spring, Texas.

Friends are invited to join Mary Jane’s family at noon on August 10, 2019 for a Memorial Service at the Jenner's Pond Retirement Community, Alison Building, 2000 Greenbriar Lane, West Grove PA 19390.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Benevolent Care Fund of Jenner's Pond at the aforementioned address.
