Robert Edward Vermette

January 31, 1932

Robert Edward Vermette of West Chester, Pennsylvania passed away at his home on Thursday, September 20, 2018.  He was 86 years old.

Robert Vermette was born on January 31, 1932 in his parent’s house in Elizabeth, NJ.

Bob married the love of his life, Diana, in 1954 and they remained devoted to each other through all the years, never apart on their anniversaries, celebrating their 64th anniversary from his bedside in the hospital on September 5, 2018.  He passed away at home with Diana at his side.  Bob’s unselfish example of a loving husband and father served as the standard for his children and grandchildren—his ongoing legacy.

Bob graduated from University of Rochester and spent the majority of his career working for IBM as a systems analyst where he contributed to the software programs used by NASA’s first shuttle flights in the late 1970’s.  After retirement, he worked with Diana, first in their ceramics studio and then managing Ken’s medical practice before settling down into full time grandfathering and finally, great-grandfathering.

Throughout his life, his priorities were his family and his faith. While no man is perfect, he was always, as his great grandson noted, a “Great Bob”.

He is the beloved husband of Diana Jean Varandas Vermette; father of Robert O. Vermette and his wife, Lucinda, Kenneth N. Vermette and his wife, Debbie, Jeffrey Vermette and his wife, Mary and Julia Kaczala and her husband, John; grandfather of Shawn Vermette (Janna), Jason Vermette (Sharayah), David Vermette (Becky), Ryan Vermette, Stephanie Kaczala, Jacqueline Kaczala, Joshua Vermette and Tamara Foster;  great-grandfather of Lucas Vermette and Finley Vermette.

Robert was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Helene Lucas Vermette and his brother, John "Jack" Vermette.

A viewing will be from 3:00PM until 4:00PM and his funeral service at 4:00PM on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the LONGWOOD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION of MATTHEW GENEREUX, 913 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square, Pennsylvania.  Burial in Longwood Cemetery will be private.

Family flowers arranged by LeStyle 25 of Unionville, 610-925-1901 tel.
