It has taken me almost 2 years to reply to you all, I’m sorry. Thank you for your kind words, stories and thoughtful memories of Sam, they mean the world to us. Sam was a light in our hearts and we miss him dearly.

I knew Sam from when James went to Centreville- he was always pleasant, encouraging and one of the best people around. I was so glad to run into him again as he worked as a local committee person for the democrats. Sam always made me smile, and I was crushed to hear about his passing this past weekend. His passing seems horribly unfair- we need more kind and empathetic people like Sam in the world. he had an energy about him that seemed to say Anything is possible, and he gave that gift to parents and children at Centreville with every encounter.

So many memories are coming flooding back about Sam. He was one of Amelia's favorite teachers at Centreville when she came in 2009. He remained a strong part of her school life all the way up to her graduation from Centreville Layton in June. We will always think of him when we visit the habitat at school. He and I had some great political discussions, I will miss those. Peace be with you.

To the Armstrong family:
Please accept our deepest condolences for your loss. Sam has made an indelible mark on our son Frankie. Since Frankie became his student he would often say"Mr. Armstring says" and then impart something he learned from Sam. Sam's habitat at school opened Frankies eyes to our natural world. Through his guidance he learned the value of conservation and stewardship. Sam also imparted the need to be aware of our indigenous plants, bugs and animals. Frankie has taken that to heart. Lessons he will never forget! We are very thankful that Sam was Frankies teacher.
