Agnes Janoscrat, Ph.D.
Agnes J. Janoscrat was born on July 17, 1931, in Pennsylvania to Parascava Cap and Martin Janoscrat. She died on 17 December 2025. She was the second youngest of fourteen children and the last living child.
She always focused on education and helping others. In her large immigrant family, she was the second Registered Nurse and the first to earn a Ph.D. She was a strong advocate for social justice and

racial equality, and especially active on these issues during the 1960s and 1970s.
She grew up in Western Pennsylvania and lived on a farm with her uncle Joseph, her mother, and her sister, Phyllis, while completing her high school education and nursing technical training. She graduated from Derry High School in Derry, PA.
Agnes received her BSN from the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing on 29 February 1952. She later earned her MSN from Catholic University in Washington, DC.
Agnes J. Janoscrat was awarded a Ph.D. in Nursing Education from the University of Maryland, College Park, in December 1975.
In 1980, while at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, she participated in the Executive Development Series I, “Have you ever thought of being a dean?” She was the first Director of the RN Program at Gonzaga University, Spokane, Washington.
Agnes enjoyed gardening, birding, reading, walking, attending Broadway plays, and reading the New York Times. In retirement, she volunteered to teach English in Poland. During one trip, she also visited her parents' birthplace and met her aunt's family in Rozpucie, Tyrawa Woloska, Poland.
Four brothers and nine sisters predeceased her.
Surviving nephews and nieces include Colonel William Hyatt Bache of Brussels, Belgium; Andrew J. Reagan of Paxtang; Joseph R. Reagan of Steelton; William E. Reagan of Downingtown; Cecilia A. Johnson of Wellsville, Pa.; Alesia Perkins-Moulton, England (great-niece); and Christina Bache (great-niece) and Ela Fidan (great-great-niece), both of Brussels, Belgium.
