Angela L. Matina

Angela L. Matina of Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, passed away on June 21, 2023, comforted by her wife and life partner of 19 years, Judith (“Judy”) Obetz.  Born in New York City, Angela was 63 years old.  In addition to her wife, Angela is survived by her parents, Salvatore and Lillian Schmidt Matina.  She was predeceased by her sister, Edith Matina.

Angela’s life passion was helping people.  For years she worked as a paramedic, first in Philadelphia and its suburbs and later in hyperbaric medicine.  She retired from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Hyperbaric Medicine.  A woman of kindness and warmth, Angela also helped her family and friends with their medical needs. 

Angela was happiest around water.  Growing up in Massapequa, Long Island, she loved spending time near the ocean, and later became a life guard and masters swimmer.  Angela loved all animals and they were drawn to her, and she was at peace when surrounded by nature.
