Barbara Bertrando Obituary

Barbara Jean (Jones) Bertrando, age 83, passed away peacefully at home in Toughkenamon, PA on May 31, 2023 with her beloved husband, William E. Bertrando at her side.  Born in Manchaca, Texas, she was the daughter of the late James and Lillian Jones.  She grew up in a large family and was proud of her Texan roots.  She met her husband during his service in the United States Army at Bergstrom Air Force Base.  They were married six months later in Kennett Square, PA on May 12, 1962.  Barbara lived with Multiple Sclerosis most of her adult life and was cared for by her loving husband.

For Barbara, family was everything and raising her children was the joy of her life.  She took an active role in her children’s education and spent countless hours volunteering at New Garden Elementary School, along with her dear friend Pat Sabocsik.  They were instrumental in founding and operating the New Garden Parent Teachers Association.

Barbara enjoyed cooking, crafting, word puzzles and chatting on the phone with her dearest friends and family.  She loved sports and enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Phillies and Penn State football.

She is survived by her husband, William E. Bertrando; her daughter, Cindy Bertrando and her husband, Bob Williams of Thornton, PA; her son, Jeff Bertrando of Washington, DC, and her grandsons, Nicholas and Cory Bertrando Williams.

Burial will be private and at the discretion of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
