Bernard P. Encarnacion, Sr.

Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we share news of the peaceful passing of Bernard P. Encarnacion, Sr. (Bernie) on December 15, 2023, at the tender age of 87.  Bernie was one of those rare individuals who could light up a room with his quick wit and welcoming personality.  He made everyone feel that they were acknowledged and special.  His kindness and generous spirit will live on through all those he encountered while he lived his incredible and unique life.

Bernie was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. His grandson precedes his death, Eric Stone Encarnacion. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Leigh Encarnacion, his three children: his son, Bernie Encarnacion, Jr., and his wife, Amy; grandchildren, Alex Encarnacion and Juan Byas from Knoxville, Tennessee; his daughter, Lynn Encarnacion & spouse, Stephen Gorzinski - living abroad; his daughter, Susan & spouse, Russ Langford; grandchildren, Jack and Mitchell from Great falls, Virginia; his stepdaughter, Rosalie Bryant Gnade, and her spouse, Michael; grandchildren, Penelope and Zetta from Wilmington, Delaware and last but not least, his "kindred spirit" 17 year end nephew, Seth Michael Gibbons.

In 1963, he started his career with AXA Equitable and served as district manager, then agency manager through 1985. As a testament to his dynamic personality, he distinguished himself, earning numerous professional awards and citations for his achievements. These accolades included his entry into the Equitable Hall of Fame in 1976, the Centurion Award in 2000, and the prestigious Hallmark Award in 2005. For over 50 years, Bernie facilitated a thriving financial services business focused on families, individuals and small business owners. Bernie met his soulmate and best friend, Carol "Leigh" Crispi, and they were married on August 11, 2008, in beautiful Saint Michaels, MD. Bernie told everyone that he was the "happiest and luckiest man alive," and their love story would continue to live on until their together again in heaven.  Leigh's devotion, care, and love for Bernie guided him through his recent illness and gave him unending tenderness, support, and comfort.

Bernie had a way of befriending and lifting people. We will never forget his gift of kindness, humor, and friendship to everyone he encountered.  Until our paths cross again, Bernard P. Encarnacion Sr. will live on through his wife, children, grandchildren, nephew, and lives are better by knowing him.
