Calvin C. Pickel

Calvin C. Pickel, formerly of Avondale, Pennsylvania passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023.  He was 95 years old.

Calvin was the beloved husband of the late Marjorie Needham Pickel.  He is survived by many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, Myron Irwin Pickel and Annie Louela Conner Pickel and his brother Maurice Richard Pickel.

Calvin was a graduate of Avon Grove High School in 1946. He worked with his brother and father in the greenhouses in Avondale on State Street for many years until his father's passing.  He then was employed by ET Chambers Construction Company of West Grove until his "first retirement" in the 1980's.  Calvin went back to work in 1983 to work as a project manager for Kendal-Crosslands Communities for another 37 years until his official retirement in 2020.  He was a member of Avondale Presbyterian Church for 79 years. He started his attendance at Avondale Presbyterian Church in 1944, where he truly was a "quiet faithful servant of the Lord".  Calvin was a member of West Grove/Avondale Rotary for more than 50 years where he received two Paul Harris Fellow Awards and 50 years of perfect attendance!

A viewing will be from 10:00AM until 11:00AM with a funeral service at 11:00AM on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at AVONDALE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 420 Pennsylvania Avenue, Avondale.  Burial will follow the funeral service in Union Hill Cemetery, Kennett Square.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Calvin's memory to Avondale Presbyterian Church.

A memorial service will be at 2:00PM on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Crosslands, William Penn Room, 1660 Street Road, Kennett Square.
