Carl Roger Dickens passed peacefully at the Sanatoga Rehabilitation Center in Pottstown, PA on July 27, 2025. He was 93 years old.
Born May 3,1932 in Mountain City, Tennessee, Carl was the son of the late Munsey Thomas and Vadie Maxwell Dickens. Carl moved to Kennett Square, Pennsylvania after graduation from high school to look for work and that is where he met his wife of 69 years, Joanna Cox. Joanna preceded him in death on October 10, 2021.
After they were married, Carl was drafted to the Korean War on September 11, 1952. He was named Corporal on January 11,1953 and was honorably discharged on July 14, 1954. He served as a Corporal in Company C. 10th Engineering Division. He spent part of wartime training in Japan and served as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic in South Korea. Once discharged, Carl went to work for General Motors in Wilmington, Delaware and retired after 36 years of service.
Carl enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play team sports, he was a master at telling stories and often indulging his sweet tooth that was famous amongst his family and friends. Carl spent a large part of his time traveling to his mountain house in Potter County which he built and owned for over 40 years. He also enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing, gardening, doing crossword puzzles and the Rubix cube, woodworking and devoting his time to his family.
Carl is survived by his four children, Robert (Bob) and his wife, Terry of Smithfield, NC; Carol and her husband, Joe Versagli of Landenberg, PA; Ronald (Ron) and his wife, Suzanne of Avondale, PA; and Barbara (Barbie) and her husband, Kent of Bradenton, FL.
Carl doted on his grandchildren, Jennifer Bottomley, Kelly McNeil, Morgan Wynn, Blair Jones, Cooper Lane, Miller Lane and Palmer Lane. He also leaves behind three great grandchildren, Peyton McNeil, Logan McNeil and Finley Wynn.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Munsey and Vadie Dickens as well as siblings, Maxie Dickens, Munsey Dickens Jr., Phyllis Britton, Joseph Mack Dickens, John Dickens and Jerry Dickens. He is survived by his brothers, Bill Dickens, Jimmy Dickens, and David Dickens.

A viewing will be from 10:00AM until 11:00AM with a funeral service at 11:00AM on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at the LONGWOOD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION of MATTHEW GENEREUX, 913 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square. Burial with United States Army honors will follow in Union Hill Cemetery.
