Charles "Butch" Mellor, Jr. Obituary

Charles "Butch" Mellor, Jr. passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2022, surrounded by his family.  He was 74 years old.

Born in Darby, Pennsylvania on August 29, 1947 and raised in Media, Butch was the son of the late Charles W. Mellor, Sr. and the late Mary E. (nee Borden) Mellor. 

Butch was a 1966 graduate of Penncrest High School.  He honorably served our Country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  Butch was assigned to Company D, 40th Signal Battalion where he was stationed in An Khe, Chu Lai and Pho Ta, Vietnam from 1967 to 1968.  He embodied the essence of a true patriot.  He was a founding member of the neighborhood watch in Toby Farms and Chairman of a Youth Aid panel.  He was always willing to lend a hand and help family, friends and neighbors.  He enjoyed the outdoors, camping with the family, playing pool and taking care of his home and property.  Butch was as avid and skilled carpenter by profession. Upon retirement and most of all, he enjoyed his grandchildren and watching his family spend time together from his bench.

Butch was the beloved husband for 45 years of Nellie (nee Kokoszka) Mellor; father of Christopher Mellor (Leyna), Lauren Cruse (Miguel) and Eilleen Green (Dave); grandfather of CJ, Alyssa, Aubrey, Christian, Gi, Cody, MJ (his buddy), Amber and Brianna; great-grandfather of Noelle; brother of Johnny Mellor.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews and close friend, Louis C.

In addition to his parents, Butch was predeceased by siblings, Carole Remington (George), Virginia "Ginger" McVaugh (Jimmy), Marylou Angelucci (Tony) and Charlotte "Chickie" Mellor (Mike).  Also predeceased by his beloved friends, Bill W. and John Rowan.

Visitation with the family will be from 11:00AM until 1:00PM with a memorial service and U.S. Army military honors beginning at 1:00PM on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at the LONGWOOD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION of MATTHEW GENEREUX, 913 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square.  Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Butch's name can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the American Cancer Society.
