Christopher Elek, age 38 died in a tragic motorcycle accident in Kennett Square, PA on September 19, 2025.
Chris lived life on his own terms. He chose his own path. He loved fishing and being out on the water, in a sailboat, motor boat or kayak. He spent many summers in Lewes, DE with his grandparents, Ed and Phyllis Soboczenski out on the Delaware Bay. He was extremely capable and had a natural ability to fix things. After attending Del Tech he worked at the marina in Lewes repairing boats. When a 70 foot sailboat, the Irvmiren, capsized near Lewes in 2014, he spent the following two years living on it in Portsmouth, RI rewiring and repairing the damage, a truly skilled mechanic.
He enjoyed hiking in the White Mountains of NH and fishing in the Everglades of Florida, sharing his adventures with his friends, introducing them to new experiences. He owned a fleet of kayaks and organized camping and paddling trips. He enjoyed caving, photography, identifying mushrooms, wilderness safety and was always up for an adventure.
Outside of his adventures Chris took in souls in need of care and support. He touched people with his gentleness and kindness and provided a safe haven for those in need. He shared his home in Landenberg, PA with many people seeking shelter.
Chris is survived by his parents, Bela Elek (Deborah) of Wilmington, DE; Linda Young (Robert) of Chadds Ford, PA; his sister Lillian Elek (Kevin) of Arvada Colorado; his grandfather Ed Soboczenski of Wilmington, DE; his uncle Steve Soboczenski (Joyce) of Lewes, DE; and cousins Kimberly Gilbert (Jose), Susie Soboczenski and Shari Soboczenski.
To honor his memory be kind to others and enjoy nature.
