In Loving Memory of Claudette Melissa Reed
Claudette Melissa Reed nee Mapp of Greenville, DE died peacefully at home on January 1, 2025. Claudette was 63 years old. Born February 14, 1961, in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago, she was the second child among four sons to Cadman Llewellyn Mapp and Jean Teresa Mapp.
Claudette had a passion for Chemistry and Biology. She graduated Valedictorian from August Martin High School in Queens, went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology from Princeton University in 1984, followed by a Master of Science degree in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1989.
Claudette worked for the United States Environmental Protection Agency from 1993 until 2024. During her thirty-one-year EPA career, Claudette was recognized with two distinguished awards: the Glen Witmer Award in 2005, the most prestigious regional award and the William T. Wisniewski Human Resources Award in 2020. Claudette worked in many programs including enforcement, grants and contracts management, underground storage tanks, and Superfund. For the last 5 years of her career, she served as the Branch Chief in the Superfund program managing the Program Support and Cost Recovery programs which was her dream job. Claudette was known for making informed and effective decisions and supporting her staff with her insight and thoughtfulness. Claudette will be truly missed by so many of her EPA colleagues who developed close personal relationships with her.
Claudette enjoyed fostering great friendships through travel to the Dominican Republic and Maine with her friends Stacy and Ann, travelling with EPA colleagues to watch tennis at the U.S. Open, buying her favorite yarn for knitting beautiful sweaters and scarves, ice skating and reading. Claudette relished a fine meal whether dining out in a five-star restaurant, with her brother Neil, or sharing a sumptuous home cooked meal with family and friends.
Claudette became a member of GOD’S Family, accepting the gospel, and was baptized in the name of the FATHER and the SON and the HOLY SPIRIT. In the Church of CHRIST, Claudette was a mentor for many and teacher for young attendees.
Claudette's legacy is one of compassion, dedication, kindness, and faith. Her love of humor brought joy to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. May she rest in eternal peace.
