Craig F. Halsey, formerly of Chester County, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024 in Houston, Texas after a gallant fight with cancer. He was 57 years old.
Born in Plainfield, Union County, New Jersey, he was the son of Glenn T. Halsey and Carol Fleming Halsey.
He was the beloved father of Bryce D. Halsey and Sophia C. Halsey; brother of Duane Halsey.
Craig was a Unionville Ice Hockey and CCSC lifer. He was an alum, having played in the 80’s. He passed the torch to his son Bryce, UIHC team Captain, class of 2019, a leader and a gentleman like his father. Craig was a beloved coach and UIHC Board member including 2 terms as president. He was truly a great person, as a coach he was kind, knowledgeable, positive and fun. As a board president he was an unselfish leader who spent hundreds of hours behind the scenes trying to make Unionville hockey a great experience for our children. Our children are all better people for having been mentored by him. Those lucky enough to have coached with him, played with him or served on the board with him are so fortunate to have gotten to work with him and enjoy his presence. Craig also worked with his brother, Duane. Together, they operated 2 successful businesses in the area through the years, namely Lutimos and Manny Hattans. Through their great comradery, Craig and Duane built a large following of regular customers and staff that became like family to them. So many of these folks have maintained contact with Craig through the years. With Craig's food experience, he was tapped for running the concession / snack bar for Sophie's Cheer Team to help raise money. He made a mountain of funnel cakes through the years and also had numerous "cheer trips" to Disney with Sophie as well. Above all Craig was a great father, a great person, and a great friend.
Visitation with the family will be from 10:00AM until 12:00PM with a Celebration of Craig's Life at 12:00PM on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 109 E. Doe Run Road, Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. A light reception with the family will follow the service in the church hall. Craig's wishes were that this event be upbeat and those attending wear casual clothes, be comfortable and be ready to share a funny "Craig story" at the reception.
The family asks that NO flowers be sent. Please consider a memorial donation in Craig's memory to Donovan Memorial Scholarships - with Chester County Skating Club, an organization that he was devoted to.
