Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of David William Robinson, who left this world on November 8, 2024, at the age of 87. Dave lived a life filled with adventure, curiosity, and love.  His career at Firestone moved his family across the USA to California and Ohio and then around the globe to Australia, Italy, Brazil, and Venezuela. Anyone who spent time with Dave, would hear of his many adventures as he delighted in recounting stories from living and traveling abroad.

Dave was most proud of his family.  He cherished the closeness and harmony within the nuclear family and counted it among his greatest accomplishments and legacy.  He is survived by his three beloved daughters, Ruth, Lorraine, and Priscilla, his eight grandchildren (Jeff, Becky, Nicole, Mandy, Ryan, Caity, Miles, and Ailey), his three sons-in-law (Al, Mark, and Jim), his four great-grandchildren (Ryder, Carter, Landon, and Leela) and his older brother Kenneth.  He was predeceased by his wife, Fay, with whom he shared 63 years of joy, laughter, and love.  Fay and Dave were known for their signature of three: three kisses, three daughters, and three dogs.

Dave was immensely proud of what each of his grandchildren achieved and readily shared their accomplishments with others. He was especially pleased that two of his grandsons followed his lead and earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout—a milestone Dave held in high regard.

Dave had an insatiable love of learning, reading exclusively non-fiction, attending lectures, and listening to live and recorded classical music. He maintained meticulous records including his extremely long list of books read, and titles to reserve at the local library.

He leveraged his engineering education in his plant manager roles and in his personal life.  He optimized savings and spending; some might sum it up by saying he was frugal.  He repurposed everything he could, whether it was parts of an old refrigerator as shelving or golf balls as hardscaping.

Those who knew him well also knew of his playful habit of incorporating his signature initials into everything he could, from a custom-designed rug to the lawn and even the patio stones.

Dave will be remembered for his boundless curiosity, resourcefulness, puns, questions to the young grandchildren, enjoyment of world travel, incredible fairness, and deep love for family.  Many of these traits have been passed down to his children and grandchildren.  We will think of him every time we hear a pianist play ‘The Girl From Ipanema,’ his favorite request.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to your local library.
