Deborah Day Hayes (McKay) passed away peacefully on the 16th of June at the age of 83, surrounded by her loving family.
Debbie's early life was spent in Bedford Hills, New York where she attended Bedford Hills High School and later St. Margert's School in Connecticut. She and her family had spent every summer at the Corlear Bay Club on Lake Champlain near Keeseville, NY hiking, swimming, and sailing. Debbie made many lifelong friends and gained a deep appreciation for the natural beauty of the Adirondacks.
She graduated from Skidmore College and moved with her family to New Jersey. While working in New York City, she met and married Raymond McKay. She then split her time between raising their two boys and volunteering locally. The family moved to the Main Line area of Pennsylvania, and as the boys grew older, she returned to work rising to the position of Marketing Director, a professional achievement of which she was very proud.
Years after Raymond's untimely death and her sons on their own, she met and married Harold Hayes, eventually moving to Easton, MD. Debbie was active in the Talbot Country Club's ladies golf group, as a member of the Chesapeake Curling Club, and making sure Harry didn't heel their boat too much when sailing. Continuing her lifelong commitment to volunteering, she was eventually appointed the Director of Volunteers for the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Easton. Debbie and Harry loved travel, sailing, playing golf, entertaining family and friends and enjoying life.
In her last few years, she and Harry moved back to PA where he passed away in 2021. Her friends, both old and new, sustained her during that difficult time.
Debbie's sunny smile, natural outgoing, positive, and friendly personality will certainly be missed by her family and many friends. Surviving are her sons, Christopher and Michael, her four grandchildren, extended family and many friends.
Those who wish to honor her memory are asked to donate to The Adirondack Council http://www.adirondackcouncil.org
