Diana Vermette Obituary

Diana Jean Varandas Vermette of West Chester, Pennsylvania passed away at her home on Thursday, October 4, 2018.  She was 86 years old.  She was born on November 7, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York.

Diana married the love of her life, Bob, in 1954, and they remained devoted to each other through the years.  They never spent an anniversary apart, and they celebrated their 64th anniversary from his bedside in the hospital on September 5, 2018.  He passed away at home with Diana at his side and she joined him 2 weeks later.

Although an illness in her early teens left her with damage to her heart that persisted throughout her life, she always had plenty of heart to spare for her family, friends, church, and even complete strangers.  While staying home and caring for her children and ailing mother, she showed her artistic flair in painting beautiful items in ceramic and porcelain that Bob had molded, including commissioned work for the Houston Ballet.  After her children were grown, she started a 2nd career and spent 8 years working in her son’s medical office, doing billing and referrals.

She loved each of her children’s spouses and made them feel uniquely part of her family.  As each grandchild came along, she found additional love for each of them and in turn for each of their spouses.  She loved going from “Mom” to “Grandma” and finally to “GG” to her great-grandchildren.

Throughout her life, nothing was as dear to her as her family.  When Bob’s health failed, so did her own heart, and her longing for her departed husband took her home to his side in heaven.

She is survived by Robert O. Vermette and his wife, Lucinda; Kenneth N. Vermette and his wife, Debbie; Jeffrey Vermette and his wife, Mary; and Julia Kaczala and her husband, John; her grandchildren Shawn Vermette (Janna), Jason Vermette (Sharayah), David Vermette (Becky), Ryan Vermette, Stephanie Kaczala, Jacqueline Kaczala, Joshua Vermette, and Tamara Foster; and her great-grandchildren Lucas Vermette and Finley Vermette.

Diana was predeceased by her husband, Robert E. Vermette; her parents, Oliver and Julia Varandas; and her brother, Norman Varandas.

A viewing will be held from 10AM until 11AM and her funeral service at 11AM on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at LONGWOOD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION of MATTHEW GENEREUX, 913 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square, Pennsylvania.

Burial in Longwood Cemetery will follow.
