Dorothy Redington Obituary

Dorothy Louise Redington, of Hillsborough, New Jersey, died on January 8, 2020. She was 91 years old.

Born in Northampton, Massachusetts, Dorothy was a graduate of Northampton High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree in education from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. In 1951 Dorothy married her late husband, George F. Redington; they were married for 64 years. She later studied Library Science at William Paterson College in New Jersey, and received an elementary library certificate. After raising her children, Dorothy taught preschool classes at the Nursery Division of the Horace Mann School in Manhattan, New York.

Along with her late husband, Dorothy was involved in The Manors at Hillsborough Homeowners’ Association where she served as the Landscaping Committee chairperson. She was an active member of the Hillsborough Republican Club and an ardent fan of the Somerset Patriots. Dorothy’s family always admired her talent for both fine needlework and sewing and will continue to cherish the many pieces she created over the years.

Dorothy is survived by her four children and their spouses: Joan Redington Krahn and her husband, Russ, of Hillsborough, NJ; James F. Redington, MD, and his wife, Sarah, of Richmond, VA; Gail E. Wiles and her husband, Lawrence, of Holden, MA; and Mary Jane Heemer and her husband, John, of Chester Springs, PA.  She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren who loved their grandmother dearly, as well as 7 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, George F. Redington, her parents, Lloyd J. and Elsie R. Matthews, a sister, Barbara J. Hibbard, and a brother, Donald H. Matthews.

A graveside service will be held later this year at Oak Hill Cemetery in Troy, Pennsylvania.
