Dr. Charles W. Garris, age 83, of Unionville, Pennsylvania passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025, following a lengthy illness.  He was born a son of the late Charles S. and Virginia (Acres) Garris.  Born and raised in the Pittsburgh Area, "DOC" moved to Chester County where he was a resident in Unionville for 42 years. 

He worked in Education in a variety of teaching positions.  He is well known as the Superintendent of Unionville- Chadds Ford School for which he retired in 1999.  He retired the year his first granddaughter started school.  He felt it was time.

He enjoyed spending time at the beach in Fenwick Island, DE with family and friends.  But those who knew him he was “Penn State” where he received his Doctorate in Education and was a season ticket holder for PSU Football.  He started coaching Little League in 1963 for his younger brother but then continued as a coach for his sons through Little League.  He received a special award for coaching from 1963-1994 from the Kennett Old-timers Baseball Assn in 2022.

He is survived by Donna (Jones), his wife of 56 years; son, Kevin (Beth); daughter, Colleen (Mike) and grandchildren, Taylor (Sean) Kassie (Ron) and Dylan.  Also, surviving his brother, Roger (Jane) of Texas.  He was preceded in death earlier this month by his son, Shawn and his brother, Clifford Garris (d. 2024).

A Memorial Service will be held on February 22, 2025, at Unionville Presbyterian Church, Wollaston Road, Kennett Square, PA.  There will be a visitation time with the family from 1 PM to 2PM with a service to follow at 2 PM.
