George E. McLaughlin, M.D., FACP, FACR, age 92 of Cokesbury Village, Hockessin, DE passed away on Feb. 11, 2026.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Frank and Helene McLaughlin; brother of the late Frank, Jr.
George was a graduate of West Phila. Catholic H.S.(1951), Univ. of Penn (1955) and Temple School of Medicine (1959). He was a U.S. Navy veteran and General Medical Officer, having served on the Island of Saipan in the Marianas Islands. The founder of Rheumatology Associates, Inc., he retired from practice in 2002. Dr. McLaughlin continued as a consultant for rheumatic diseases for Community Volunteers in Medicine in West Chester, for 19 additional yrs. He taught and mentored hundreds of medical school students from Temple University and served as an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine.
In his words, “the smartest thing I did was to marry Jeannine Mendenhall in Princeton, New Jersey on June 22 of 1957”. Together, they raised four, “remarkable children”. His marriage to Jeannine could only be described as, “a 68 year love affair, augmented by fun, family and 40 years of sailing on the Chesapeake Bay!”
He is survived by his wife, Jeannine Mendenhall McLaughlin; children Kathleen Sherman (Karl “Max”), Nancy Bassney (Patrick), Michael McLaughlin (Kathryn Packart) and Megan McLaughlin (Jim Wilkin); grandfather of Eric Sherman (Sara), Mathew Sherman (Claudia), Kelsey Sherman, M.D. (William Detwiler), Kevin Bassney (Emma Hartmann), Sean Bassney, Erin Bassney, Kristin McLaughlin (Sean Fleuriel), Laura McLaughlin, Natalie Mclaughlin, Melissa McLaughlin, Alema Brkic (Osman) and Alem Lemes; great-grandfather of Autumn Bassney, Audria Sherman, Anna Sherman, Haris Brkic, Emir Brkic and Amina Brkic.
A celebration of life service will be at 11:00AM on Saturday, March 21, 2026 in the Auditorium at Cokesbury Village, 726 Loveville Rd., Hockessin. A reception with the family will follow the service at Cokesbury.
