Eleonor "Ellie" Marilyn Bart

October 20, 1993

Obituary

Eleonor Marilyn Bart, affectionately known as Ellie, peacefully departed this world on June 9, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and strength. She was a beloved daughter, a doting sister, a cherished friend, and a devoted wife whose radiant spirit touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Born in Mountain View, California on October 20, 1993, Ellie was a sixth-generation Californian. From a young age, Ellie was a world traveler, beginning with an impromptu trip to Canada as an infant. Ellie visited all seven continents and even swam in Antarctica. While living in Germany as a pre-teen, she became an internationally ranked swimmer. Ellie also earned a Black Belt in karate and was an avid scuba diver, skier, and archer.  Although she would eventually settle in Maryland, Ellie never stopped traveling around the world with her friends and family.

Academically gifted, Ellie pursued higher education at Virginia Tech, where she attained bachelor’s degrees in Animal and Poultry Science and Dairy Science, as well as a master's degree in Dairy Science. These studies connected to a deep affection for animals; she shared her life with numerous furry and scaly friends. Her dogs, Woody, Klaus, Ada, and Babbage, were her cherished companions, as were her cats, Jiji, Pumpkin, Captain, and Domino. Pele the chinchilla, Wrex the hamster, and Thora the bearded dragon completed her menagerie. Ellie's boundless love and care for animals reflected her nurturing soul.

Driven by her insatiable curiosity and unwavering work ethic, she fearlessly embarked on a post-graduate career as a Software Engineer. After completing a grueling 3-month coding boot camp at ZipCode Wilmington, Ellie started her coding career at M&T Bank as a Software Developer. Later, she would join the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as a Software Engineer, where her extensive talents directly supported research scientists working towards a cure. Her three years at the Foundation were challenging, fulfilling, and rewarding. Despite her relatively recent and somewhat unconventional path into the field, Ellie was recognized by her peers and seniors as an extraordinarily gifted coder.

Beyond her professional achievements, Ellie's compassionate nature and dedication to helping others were simply remarkable. Her beauty went beyond skin deep, as she had an innate ability to make anyone feel welcome and valued. Her kindness, charm, and sense of humor brightened the lives of those around her. She was not only intelligent and talented but also thoughtful, always willing to lend a helping hand and lift others up.

Ellie also possessed a creative spark that ignited her artistic endeavors. She reveled in the joy of making art, be it through drawing, crocheting, chainmail, or sewing. Her talent and creativity matched the richness of her imagination. She also enjoyed a wide range of video games, board games, musical theater, and fantasy stories. She excelled at completing escape rooms, solving puzzles, and making up puns.

Ellie is survived by her beloved husband, Austin Cory Bart. They were united in marriage on May 20, 2017, in a heartfelt ceremony in Quiet Waters Park, Annapolis. Ellie is also survived by her sister, Emma Pellerito, and brother-in-law, Sam Pellerito. Ellie and Emma shared a sister bond that transcended words. Her parents, Michelle Ravekes Allbritton and Mark Allbritton, will forever cherish the precious memories they created together. Austin now carries the weight of profound loss, joined in his grief by her family and her closest friends: Katie, Cece, and countless others who were touched by her extraordinary presence. Sadly, her grandfather, John “Grampy” Ravekes, passed away last year.  Ellie loved her Grampy very much and always showered him with love and hugs. The family is comforted in the knowledge that Ellie and Grampy are reunited, likely belting out Broadway show tunes and reliving their many adventures.

To honor Ellie's memory and the incredible person she was, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a Memorial Fund that will be established in her honor. This cause will support women from non-traditional paths who are aspiring to become Software Engineers, just like Ellie. Details about the fund can be found at https://elbell.github.io/

Eleonor "Ellie" Bart, a flame that burned twice as bright but only half as long, has left an indelible mark on our lives. As we mourn her tragic loss, let us remember her beautiful smile, her loving spirit, and her unwavering dedication to friends and family. May her legacy inspire us to be kinder, more compassionate, and ever grateful for the fleeting beauty of life.
