Grateful member of Alanon, former teacher and retired Marketing Professional, Ellen “Nana” Stevens’ love of life didn’t end with her death. Her strength is carried on through the many people that loved her. She passed away on May 24, 2023, at the young age of 81 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family and loved ones who will honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
Ellen was born in Baldwin, NY to David Valdimer and Sayde Pomerantz. A graduate of Freeport High School, she went on to complete her BS in Education from Hofstra University and her MBA from Temple University. After a brief stint as a teacher, Ellen found her passion as a Marketing Professional. She enjoyed a very successful 25-year career at Independence Blue Cross in Philadelphia, retiring in 2009.
In 1989, Ellen married the late Jerry Stevens and lived in Center City before moving to picturesque Chadds Ford. She is survived by her daughters Dr. Jill Epstein (Matt), Debra Gordon (Michael) and her beloved grandson Spencer. In addition, Ellen also leaves behind many friends.
Ellen heartily believed in the power of Al-anon in her life and generously shared her experience, strength and hope with others.
Visitation with the family will be from 10:30AM until 11:30AM with a memorial service at 11:30AM on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at the LONGWOOD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION of MATTHEW GENEREUX, 913 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square. Burial will be private.
