Obituary

Ernest “Ernie” Milner of Kennett Square, PA, passed away suddenly on Monday January 27, 2020 at the age of 85.  Born and raised in Philadelphia, Ernie was the son of Charles and Viola (nee Swift) Milner. 

Devoted husband of Margie (nee Kohler).  Loving father of Ernie Milner (Margaret), Lisa Cole (Steve), Eric Milner (Mary Jane) and Chris Milner (Tori), grandfather to, Ian Cole, Julia Milner Peterson, Matt Milner, Drew Milner, Michael Milner, David Milner, Sarah Cole, William Milner and Katie Milner and great-grandfather to Axel Peterson.

After serving with distinction in the US Air Force, he married Margie and they began their 63-year adventure together.  Ernie’s career in criminal justice began as a Philadelphia police officer and included years at the Drug Enforcement Agency in New York City as well as a Director in the Justice Department in Washington, D.C.  Later he converted from the US Naval reserve to active duty as a Navy Captain working at the Pentagon.  During his career he received several major awards including from the DIA, CIA, and the White House.

Most of all, Ernie cherished his relationships with his extended family and friends, who loved him in turn for his generosity, sense of humor, and love of life.  Ernie was eternally optimistic and saw countless blessings in everyday life.  With Ernie, you could always expect to be greeted with a big friendly smile, firm handshake or loving hug, gestures that revealed his warm heart and kind spirit.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation from 10:00AM until 11:00AM with a celebration of life service at 11:00AM on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, 109 E. Doe Run Road, Unionville, PA.  Inurnment in the church columbarium with United States Navy Honors will follow the church memorial service.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ernie’s memory to the memorial fund of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church 109 East Doe Run Road, Unionville, PA 19375 (http://www.stmichaelpa.com/).
