Eugene Chell Obituary

Eugene Peter Chell, Esquire spent 87 years living his best life and sadly he passed away April 18th.  He was a proud graduate of Dickinson College and Rutgers Law School.  Gene was a Lieutenant in the United Sates Navy honorably serving in the JAG corps.  Following his honorable discharge from the Navy he began his distinguished career in the private practice of law in Gloucester County, NJ.  Gene was a trusted advisor to many public and private clients and an advocate for the advancement of women in all walks of life.  He served as Gloucester County Counsel, Solicitor to the Gloucester County Improvement Authority, and Solicitor to many towns and Boards in Gloucester County, NJ.  Gene also spent 6 years serving as an elected Township Committeeman in West Deptford, NJ.

Gene is survived by his devoted wife, Jean O’Donnell along with five children, Lisa Dixey, Timothy Chell, Esquire, Eva Donnelly, Lara Wynne and Gretchen Hebert; plus 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

His unselfish love and kindness for others was reflected in the life he lived caring about others.  Family visits gave him great joy.  He was blessed with very good friends and colleagues throughout his life.  Gene also enjoyed playing sports of all kinds including tennis, pickle ball, golf and biking.  Gene was an avid reader and loved classical music, theater and he savored delicious food.

Gene was immensely proud of his family and loved to spend long hours with them, especially on vacation at the NJ shore.  He made every effort to attend soccer, field hockey, tennis, baseball, softball, bowling, basketball, crew and lacrosse games, and the music recitals, dance recitals and other events in which his children or grandchildren were involved.

Ten years ago Gene and Jean left New Jersey to start the next phase of their lives living in Chester County and they began thriving in a community that provided not only activities but great neighbors and friends.

Gene touched the lives of so many and truly believed he was blessed and lucky to have lived the life he had.  His stories and experiences over his lifetime are countless and will be treasured by his family and friends and all those who had the pleasure of experiencing his company.
