Gail (Cavender) Miley died on June 19, 2026 after a brief illness at Christiana Hospital in Wilmington, DE.

Gail was born in Charleston, West Virginia on July 19, 1943.  After graduating from Morris Harvey College in Charleston, Gail moved to Dover, Delaware to begin her teaching career.  It was in Dover that she met her husband, Bob Miley. They were married for 52 years before Bob’s death on June 28, 2020.

Gail was an elementary school teacher in New Castle County, Delaware for over 30 years, teaching primarily in the Colonial School District at Wilmington Manor Elementary and then Carrie Downie Elementary schools.  After retiring from teaching, Gail was a substitute teacher in Colonial School District as well as a student teaching supervisor at Wilmington University in New Castle, DE.

Gail was active in many organizations and activities in her lifetime including the Delaware State Education Association, The American Association of University Women and Alpha Delta Kappa. She was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels of Delaware as well as the DuPont Theatre and Grand Opera House in Wilmington.  Gail loved entertaining, cooking, a good day on the beach and was particularly proud of her only granddaughter, Ella.

Gail is preceded in death by her parents Delmer and Elime Cavender her brother, Wendell Cavender and her husband, Robert T. (Bob) Miley. She is survived by her daughter, Laura (David) Hughes and her only grandchild, Ella Hughes all of West Grove, PA as well as her brother in law, Larry Miley of Allentown, PA and sister in law Margo(Miley) Rounds and nephew David Rounds of Warren, PA.

Visitation with the family will be from 10:00AM until 11:00AM with a celebration of life service at 11:00AM at the LONGWOOD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION of MATTHEW GENEREUX, 913 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square.  Interment will be private.

All are invited to dress in casual, colorful clothing (per Gail’s request) and come share stories and memories with each other.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask for donations be made in honor of Gail to Meals on Wheels of Delaware or PAWS for People.
