George Dorsch Obituary

George L. Dorsch left this mortal world on Monday, April 26, 2021 from Stonegates Retirement Community, his residence since 1997.  He was 106 years old.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of William Dorsch and Eleanor Dewald Dorsch.  While attending evening classes at the University if Cincinnati, George was employed by the DuPont Company to work on a construction project that was to last six months.  Instead, he retired from the company 37 years later.  In his honorable working career, George served at major construction site locations in the State of Washington (Manhattan Project), Ohio, Indiana, Texas, New Jersey and Delaware before joining the Construction Management Group at the Louviers Building in Newark.  He retired from DuPont in 1979 as Manager of Labor Relations and continued as a consultant to the Construction Committee of the Business Roundtable until 1989 where his efforts were directed to reduction of construction costs plus safety improvements in the industry.

George enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and golf.  He was a member of the DuPont Country Club, DuPont Fish & Game Association, Spruce Lake Rod & Gun Club and the Kennett Square Golf & Country Club.  With his beloved wife, LaVerne, he enjoyed playing bridge and dancing with her.

George was a founding member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in 1964 and the Louviers Federal Credit Union in 1968.

His wife, LaVerne predeceased him in 2003.  He is survived by his son, Robert "Bob" Dorsch and his wife Candy; grandsons, Michael Dorsch and his wife Colleen and Matthew Dorsch and his wife, Martha; great-grandchildren, Amanda, Ben, Brendan, Cam and Katie.

The family would like to sincerely thank the entire health care staff at Stonegates, especially Kim, Paula and Naomi for their kindness and loving care that made George's final year as good as it could be.

His burial in St. Joseph of the Brandywine Cemetery will be private.
