George Michael Liebezeit

July 18, 1933

Obituary

George M. Liebezeit, born July 18, 1933, passed away on March 31, 2026.  He was 92 years old.

George grew up in Bronx, NY, the eldest of five children of Frank and Anna (Yautz) Liebezeit.  He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in 1952, played basketball and worked part-time at the hardware store, which inevitably gave him his fix-nearly-anything skills.  George attended City College of New York before enlisting in the Navy, stationed in Maryland as an airplane mechanic.  He was a proud Navy veteran and always respectful of “the guys who saw combat."  After the Navy, he attended Fordham University, graduating in 1960.  He began his career as a sales engineer with U.S. Rubber Company, later Uniroyal, and in 1962 married his beautiful bride, Annette (née Rinaldo).  Together they raised three children, although he always said it was Mom who did the hard part while he was traveling for 25 years.  During that time, the family lived in Ridgewood NJ, Allison Park, PA, and Woodbridge, CT. He then spent 15 years at Parker-Hannifin Corporation as National Marketing Manager, living in Aurora, OH, then made one last move to Pocopson Twp, PA, before retiring.  George and Annette joined Kennett Square Golf and Country Club in 1994.  George was a fixture on the golf course, making countless friends with his kind demeanor and genuine interest in getting to know someone.  He enjoyed golf outings with the FROGS (Friendly Retired Old Golfers), and won the group’s coveted silver loving cup twice, the second time at age 89.  He loved good conversation and learning the perspectives of others during his regular Monday morning breakfasts with the guys, deemed “The Breakfast Board.”

George was a devoted husband of nearly 64 years, proud father of three, and loving grandfather of six.  He approached life with insatiable curiosity, always looking to learn something new or dive further into a familiar topic.  To say his library card was well-worn is an understatement, as he brought home a stack of books weekly.  He had a sharp wit and was a pro at expertly timing a joke.  A big hobby was woodworking, where he crafted pieces with patience, care, and an artistic eye, from side tables for the deck to small beds for his granddaughters' American Girl dolls to bluebird houses and old-time milk boxes, which were sold in local shops.  He loved having dinner at the club with Annette, sharing his personal history with the grandchildren, and playing golf -- which later in life was always with lots of sunscreen and a hat.  His children loved watching Dad take Mom onto the dance floor, as Dad had learned all of the popular dances back in the fifties and they were always the best dancers out there.  When his kids would call and ask How are you?, he would respond “I’m just MARVELOUS… look at this day! I’ve got your mother here, the sun is shining… I’ve got it so good!”

George is survived by his beloved wife, Annette; his children Marya Liebezeit (Mark), Ava Aljian (Rich), and Paul Liebezeit (Tracy); his six grandchildren Claire, Sydney, Dean, Dana, Lauren and Kathryn(Kiki); his sisters Anna Liebezeit, Helen Powers and Frances Boyles; many nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews. He is predeceased by his sister Bertha Cebollero.
