George Henry Palmer passed away on December 17, 2024, peacefully at his home in West Chester, Pennsylvania at the age of 77 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Born on July 29, 1947 in Collingdale, Pennsylvania George was the youngest son of James and Raffaella Palmer. A star running back at Collingdale High School, George later attended Temple University before he served our country in the Army. In 1968 he was deployed to Vietnam where he quickly earned the position of Platoon Sergeant in the 101st Airborne, 1st of the 506th Reconnaissance Regime, Green Beret.
While in Vietnam, George led his team on multiple reconnaissance missions where his bravery, courage and grit earned him 5 Bronze Stars and a Presidential Unit Citation for extraordinary heroism in combat.
George and Carol Palmer married in 1969 and gave birth to 3 sons, Brian, Brad and Collin. George was a charismatic father whose sense of humor and spirit had a profound effect on his family and community. George was an avid sports coach in his community from the Unionville Recreational Baseball League to the Southern Chester County Soccer Association, Unionville Middle School Lacrosse and the Chester County Skating Club’s Hockey Program. George made a meaningful impact on many of the kids he coached, giving them unwavering encouragement and support to find strength through adversity.
A fierce entrepreneur, George was known for his charm and wit as he led his most successful company DNA Networks to become one of the most influential computer network companies of its time.
George was a romantic, a lover of life, a total goofball and an extreme extrovert who remained infinitely curious about the world around him and how he interacted with it. He loved to connect with different types of people and understand what makes them tick, but it was his ability to overcome adversity and maintain the strength to be the best version of himself that he could be that was one of his most notable attributes. He carried that into every aspect of his life including his battle with Parkinson’s disease.
George’s spirit and soul are now woven into the fabric of every person, place and moment that he interacted with. He will live forever in the hearts of his surviving family and the countless others he made a positive impact on.
