Geraldine Lois McGuigan

Obituary

Geraldine McGuigan, born on June 21, 1951, passed away at Christiana Hospital on July 18, 2024.  She was the daughter of the late Joseph T. and Jeanette T. (Fibner) Kucinski.  Geraldine was the sister of Joseph T. Kucinski Jr. and the late Janet T. Matz, her beloved sister.

Geraldine was predeceased by her first husband, William A. Venanzi Jr., who passed away in 1998 and her second husband, Dr. Thomas McGuigan, who passed away in 2021.  She is survived by her only daughter from her first marriage, Kara Patti and son-in-law, Thomas Patti. She is also survived by her nephew, Donald J. Matz, niece, Alexis L. Matz, and stepchildren, Michael and Karen McGuigan and John and Kelly Robbins.  Geraldine leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Juliana and Josi Patti, Matthew and Gregory Robbins, and Grace McGuigan.

Gerry graduated from St. Anthony’s High School in Trenton, NJ, in 1969.  She attended both Monmouth College and Trenton State College, graduating in 1973.  She was a retired teacher who taught for 30 years in the Trenton Public School system, working in both general and special education elementary settings.

Gerry grew up in Trenton, NJ, and later lived in Yardley, PA, and Washington Crossing, PA.  She relocated to Kennett Square to be with her daughter and her daughter’s family.  In Kennett Square, she moved to Traditions and quickly became an active member of their community.

Gerry's interests included spending time with her daughter and grandchildren, lunching with friends and family, watching reality TV shows, spending time with her family at the beach in Long Beach Island, NJ, and traveling extensively.

Geraldine’s life was marked by her dedication to her family, her students, and her community. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A private service will be held for close family and friends to honor her memory.
