Harold James ("Harry") Hayes, age 93, of Jenner's Pond, West Grove, PA, passed away on July 2, 2021 after a brief illness.
Harry was born on November 11, 1927 to John and Helena (Janecki) Hayes in Jersey City, NJ. After graduating from William Dickinson High School, he joined the Marines where he proudly served as a Private First Class. Following his honorable discharge from the Marines, Harry went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rutgers University and, subsequently, a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the Stevens Institute of Technology.
In 1952, Harry married Christina Redepenning. They had three children together; Diane Benham [Rob], Douglas Hayes [Jeanie], and Karen Hayes.
He had a long and distinguished career in sales management with Airco Industrial Gases, Inc. (which in 1978 became a subsidiary of BOC Group). Harry set high expectations for his team; he taught them a lot, and they also had a lot of fun together. He loved the folks on his sales team, and they loved him.
In 1992 he married Deborah Day McKay, and he became stepfather to her sons Christopher and Michael.
After retiring in 1994, Harry and Debbie moved to Maryland's Eastern Shore. They spent their time together sailing the Chesapeake, golfing and dancing at the Talbot County Country Club, and curling with the Chesapeake Curling Club. Harry also cooked and served meals to Hospice patients in the Easton Area, and offered his services as a mentor to a number of less privileged youth.
Harry was predeceased by his parents; his brothers and sister (John, Raymond, Joseph, Robert, William, and Helen), and his former wife, Christina. He is survived by his wife Deborah, his three children and two stepchildren, and their respective families.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Harry’s name to Disabled American Veterans. https://www.dav.org
