James Irving Maher of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 28, 2025. He was 85 years old.
Born in Rochester, New York, he was the son of Irving Maher, and Therese Barber Maher.
Jim was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame-Class of 1962. He and his wife, Gloria were married at the Log Chapel, of that University, in 1963.
Jim worked for the Dupont Company for more than 30 years, with assignments at locations throughout the United States and in Europe.
His much loved wife and best friend, Gloria Jean Maher passed away in March 2020, followed by his Notre Dame graduate son in January 2022. He is survived by his Villanova graduate daughter, Ellen Borneman (Bob Zienkowski), his 3 granddaughters: Stefanie Meninno(Nick Meninno), Meghan Maher, Shannon McDonald,his grandson Aaron Borneman, his adored great granddaughter, Grace Gloria Meninno, and his sister, Maureen Hofmann.
Jim's life was dedicated to his family, and there is no place he would rather be than spending time with them. He was bright, witty, generous and one of a kind. He had a special talent for being a great man-husband, dad, grandfather (Gampy), great grandfather, brother and friend.
Dad was our hero and he will live on forever in our hearts.
Per his wishes, the service and interment will be private.
