James “Jim” Alden Barron, of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, passed away on December 22, 2024. He was born on July 19, 1945, in South Haven, Michigan to Lois and Richard Barron and grew up in Fennville, Michigan.

Jim earned a degree in chemistry from Albion College in 1967 and went on to receive his PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Illinois in 1972. He enjoyed a long and successful career with DuPont, where his work took him around the globe, including extended stays in Europe and Japan.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Brenda Mendenhall; daughter, Julie Barron Morrill; son, Chris Barron; son-in-law, Jeff Morrill; daughter-in-law, Ashley Aspinwall-Barron; cherished granddaughter, Isla Rose Barron; sister, Jacqueline Barron Conlon; and brother, William Barron.

Jim embraced life with a spirit of adventure. He was passionate about sports, especially golf and basketball, and had a deep love of music with an eclectic taste that spanned genres and eras. He enjoyed attending heavy metal shows with his son, Chris. His favorite concerts included the diverse mix of Mötley Crüe, Tom Petty, Tony Bennett, Linda Ronstadt, Carly Simon, and Little Anthony & the Imperials.

Travel was another of Jim’s great passions. He shared memorable trips with his family around the United States and to India, Thailand, and New Zealand. He treasured the cultural experiences these journeys brought.

Despite his academic and professional accomplishments, Jim remained unfailingly humble. He was never one to seek recognition, refusing to be called “Doctor Barron,” and treating everyone he met with genuine respect and kindness. His modesty, integrity, and warmth left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
