Janet Kempf Obituary

Janet Kempf of West Chester

Janet Kempf, née Szmaciasz, age 70, of West Chester, PA, beloved wife and caring mother and grandmother, passed away on October 31, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.

Janet was born in Passaic, NJ, and raised in nearby Clifton.  In high school, she traveled to Europe to participate in a marching band competition as a clarinetist. After graduating from Seton Hall University in 1972, she lived in California and Delaware before residing in West Chester for nearly four decades.  She worked for the DuPont Company for more than thirty years in various Finance & Operational capacities.

Upon retirement, Janet continued to pursue a lifelong love of her heritage, increasing her fluency in Polish & traveling to her ancestral homeland.  She loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family and was instrumental in fostering a love of the same in her grandchildren.  She took advantage of adult art classes to study painting.  Her favorite subjects to paint were wildflowers, reflecting her appreciation of nature’s beauty.  Above all, Janet prioritized her family and took great pride in sharing the accomplishments of her many nephews, whom she loved dearly.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Paul, to whom she was married for 49 years, as well as their son Scott (wife, Colleen) of West Chester and her cherished grandsons, Jackson and Logan.  Her devoted family also includes three sisters, Carol DeVisser (husband, Daniel) of Kinnelon, NJ, and their sons, Kristopher (wife, Katie) and Trevor (wife, Hadley); Marian Bell (husband, Ronald) of Okatie, SC, and their late son, Ryan; Susan Delancy (husband, Michael) of Medford, NJ, and their sons, Brian, Matthew and Jacob.
