Janet Rumbelow Obituary

Janet E. Rumbelow, age 63, passed away peacefully in her home on August 5th, 2021 after a valiant fight with ovarian cancer.  Janet was born in Shoreham-by-Sea, Sussex, England, in 1958, and moved to Chester County in 2001.  Janet always loved working with children, and in 2003 she began working for the Kennett Consolidated School District as an Instructional Assistant.  In 2013, she began working as a Special Education Instructional Assistant.  Here, she cultivated her love of all things zen and found a life-long friend.  She would spend the rest of her KCSD career in this position, retiring in August 2020.

Janet was predeceased by her parents, Gerald and Irene Cockshott.  She is survived by her loving husband, children, sister and sisters-in-law, brother and brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Janet’s great loves in her life were her family, her job, knitting and sewing, telling corny jokes, and bursting into song.  She was most content when finding mindfulness out in nature- whether that was during her many travels throughout the United States, or visiting her beloved family in Southeast England.  Janet will be remembered for her patience, strength, love, compassion, and humor.  She was a warm and bright presence, and will live on forever in our hearts and memories.  Her favorite saying was: “Don’t be sad that it’s over, be glad that it happened.”

Per Janet's wishes, "a simple graveside service" with a time of quiet meditation and reflection will be at 1:00PM on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Old Kennett Meeting Burial Ground, 1109 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Delaware Humane Association (https://delawarehumane.org/), Carter CDC (https://cartercdc.org/), Kennett Area Community Services (https://www.kacsonline.net/), Canine Partners For Life (https://k94life.org/), or any favorite charity of your choice.
