Jean Weller McClelland

Jean Weller McClelland passed away on October 4, 2023, at the age of 82. Jean was born in Upland, PA to the late John Baxter Weller and the late Barbara (Moody) Weller. Jean was the oldest of three children. She grew up in Wallingford, Pennsylvania and graduated from Nether Providence High School. Jean graduated from Dickinson College with a degree in Psychology and Mathematics. At Dickinson, she met her future husband, the late John Rowen McClelland (Jack), and they married in 1965. Jean lived in the Foulk Woods development in Wilmington, Delaware for 40 years before moving to the Cartmel community in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania in 2010.

Jean is survived by her siblings, Philip Weller and Elizabeth Plumb; her children, John D. McClelland (Karen) and Elizabeth M. Lutostansky (Mark); her four grandchildren, Keegan, Jack, Sam, and Keith; an uncle, Richard Weller; several cousins and nieces and nephews.

Jean was a math and computer teacher. After college, she taught math and special education in the West Chester school system at North Junior High School. After staying home when her children were young, Jean resumed her teaching career at a residential school for students with drug and alcohol problems. She worked for Project Direct teaching teachers to use computer terminals and later the first Apple computers. Later, she taught math at Wilmington Friends School before retiring in 1995.

Jean’s hobbies included gardening, sewing, knitting, and quilting. After retiring, Jean enjoyed traveling and spending time in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and Venice, Florida.

Visitation with the family will be from 10:00AM until 11:00AM with a memorial service at 11:00AM on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at the LONGWOOD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION of MATTHEW GENEREUX, 913 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square.  Burial will be private.
