JoAnne Cossaboon (nee. Huntzinger), formerly of Pennsbury Township, passed away in her sleep on Sunday, May 11, 2025 at Ware Presbyterian Home in Oxford, Pennsylvania, where she has resided since July 2018. She was 86 years old.
Born in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, JoAnne was the daughter of Dorothy Huntzinger. Due to family issues at the age of 5, JoAnne was adopted by her grandparents the late George and Mary Stilp Huntzinger.
At the age of 13, after school and during the summertime, JoAnne worked in her mother’s store, "Huntzinger’s 5 & 10". At the age of 16, she graduated from St. Nicholas High School in Wilkes-Barre and began college at Misericordia in Dallas, Pennsylvania where she studied chemistry and mathematics and also where she became Student Class President and May Queen. She graduated Cum Laude in 1960 and began her working career as a chemist for the Hercules Chemical Company in Wilmington, Delaware. At a "Hercules Company Picnic" in 1962, she met her future husband, Karl. They were married in 1963, began their family and resided in Wilmington until 1975. JoAnne embraced her role as a Mom and Homemaker, learned how to cook Chinese and French foods and was a faithful and devoted member of St. Cornelius Catholic Church as a CCD teacher and Church Librarian. JoAnne was open hearted as she struggled with alcoholism. In 1988, she became sober and remained so for 39 years!! After the children were raised, she returned to work as a Customer Service Representative for the Bank of Delaware (later PNC) for 10 years. At the age of 50, JoAnne decided to become a Travel Agent, working for Global International Travel Agency and learned how to Scuba Dive! She traveled to over 60 countries with family, friends and members of the Dive Club of Southeastern PA. Some of JoAnne’s favorite places to dive were Bonaire, Cayman Islands and Sulawesi, Indonesia. A scuba highlight would be that she survived a night scuba dive being lost at sea in Tortola. In early July 2011, JoAnne was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. She moved to at Brandywine Assistive living in Kennett Square for 8 years before her significant decline and in July of 2019, JoAnne moved to Ware Presbyterian Village Health Center.
Joanne is the beloved mother of Geoffrey Cossaboon, Michael Cossaboon (Sirpa), Christine Huber and David Cossaboon (Emily); grandmother of Kenneth Cossaboon, Jay Cossaboon, Sofia King, Karl Cossaboon, Thomas Cossaboon, Zachary Huber, Samantha Cossaboon; great-grandmother of Atlas.
She will joining her predeceased husband of 32 years, Karl Cossaboon (1926-1995) at Longwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1:00PM until 2:00PM with a Funeral Mass at 2:00PM on Friday, May 16, 2025 at St. Cornelius Catholic Church, 160 Ridge Road, Chadds Ford. Burial will follow in Longwood Cemetery, 945 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square.
