John McGovern

Obituary

John Dean McGovern, of West Grove, Pennsylvania, passed away suddenly on April 25, 2024 while traveling in Vancouver, British Columbia.  He was 61 years old.  Born in West Chester, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Edward McGovern and the late Dorothy Taylor McGovern.

John was a 1981 graduate of Unionville High School, where he excelled in academics and sports, where he was a wrestling champion and captain of the football team.  John continued his education at West Chester University,
where he majored in Public Health.   He completed a Masters Certificate at the Berklee School of Music.  Besides having a long, successful career in both insurance and commercial sales, where he held top awards for many years, John’s true vocation was being a musician.  He was a talented and versatile artist, playing various
instruments in multiple bands throughout his entire life.  He was also a studio musician and vocalist for several professional recordings.  Along with being a professional bass player, John owned his own recording studio, JAM Studios.  He was a talented song writer too.  John’s memory will be one filled with love, kindness, and humor.  His selfless character traits were evident not only as a father, brother, son, partner, and friend, but to anyone who needed an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, or to have a good laugh with.  His calm and gentle nature, his compassion, his talent, and his friendly manner touched the lives of so many.  He will be sadly and dearly missed.

John is survived by his sons, John McGovern and Michael McGovern; his daughter, Lia McGovern; his sisters, Julie Balentine, Janet Herr (Brian) and twin sister Elaine Kelleher (Eric); three nieces; three nephews, and partner
Wendy Logan.  He is predeceased by his parents, a brother, and a nephew.
