Joseph Rodney Hanby, Jr. of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania passed away after a short illness on Sunday, March 29, 2020 at home surrounded by his family. He was 85 years old.
Joe was born in Wilmington, Delaware on December 21,1934. He graduated from William Penn High School in New Castle, Delaware in 1952 where he played basketball and football. Graduated from Pennsylvania Military College (Widener) in 1961 with a Mechanical Engineering Degree. He enjoyed a very successful career at DuPont Company, in the design division at Louviers building in Newark, and retired 30 years later.
Joe was a member and past president of the Kennett Square Country Club where he enjoyed playing tennis, paddle ball, and bridge.
His greatest pleasure was planning and getting the entire family together every year at a beach, a lake, or on a cruise. It was always the greatest week of our lives and the memories are priceless!
Joe was an avid Eagles and Phillies fan. He loved going to Andros Island with friends. He was the life of any party and was everybody’s friend.
He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph R. Hanby, Sr, mother, Ruth M. Hanby, and his granddaughter, Ashleigh Nichole Lackey.
He is survived by his wife of over 60 yrs, Kathleen N. Hanby. He is also survived by his daughter, Colleen Hanby and her sons Casey (CJ) Lackey and Westley Lackey. He is also survived by his son, Joseph R. Hanby, III and his wife Lee C. Hanby and their daughter, Sarah Kromer. He is also survived by his son, David T. Hanby and his wife Michel Hanby and their daughter, Heather Hanby. He is also survived by his daughter, Linda Greim and her husband Tim Greim and their children, Thomas Greim, Christopher Greim, Daniel Greim, and Meghan Greim. He is also survived by his daughter, Karen Berube and her husband Michael Berube and their children, Zachary Berube, Ella Berube, and Owen Berube.
Lastly, he is also survived by his sister, Janet Johnson and her children Jane Johnson and Joe Johnson.
