Linda Martin Obituary

December 11, 1945 – March 30, 2023

Linda Johnston Martin, age 77, of Marathon, FL passed away peacefully at Riddle Hospital in Media, PA, on Thursday March 30, 2023, surrounded by her beloved family.  An underlying lung disease that had been controlled the past several years with minimal impact to her quality of life, finally took over after catching pneumonia soon after she moved back to Glen Mills, PA in early March.

Born in Meadville, PA on December 11, 1945, she was the youngest daughter of the late Howard K. Johnston and Evelyn Johnston (Korman). Raised in State College, PA, she graduated from State College High School in 1963 and Penn State University in 1967 with a degree in Math/Spanish education.

Linda was predeceased by both her parents and her brother in law, John Beatty Sr, Linda is survived by her sons Lance Martin (Lara), of Marathon, FL, Greg Martin (Anju), of Newark, DE; four grandchildren, DJ (13), Camryn (11), Lily (7) and Lucy Martin (5); her sister, Robin Beatty of Wyomissing, PA and nephews, John Beatty Jr (Sara) and Doug Beatty (Julie) and great nieces, Kendall and Morgan.

As an independent mother of two active boys, she worked as a teacher, Office Manager of a cleaning business, and was a dedicated Swim Mom, Football Mom, and Baseball Mom to Lance and Greg.  She cherished the friendships and support  through the years of the “Schlegel Ladies” and  their families.  She retired in 2013 after 20 years as a regulatory analyst at Sanofi Pharmaceuticals.

After retirement she volunteered at Chester County Hospital where she earned a recognition award for her kind service as a greeter to the vulnerable radiology patients that came in.  She enjoyed being a grandmother, and continued her love for live sports cheering on her grandchildren or hanging at the pool or beach.

She was a die hard Penn State fan, loved the Phillies and Eagles and til the end enjoyed sharing post game phone call recaps with her boys. Linda didn’t need or expect much in indulgences.  Peel ’n’ eat shrimp, meatballs, and of course Sweet Iced Tea was all she needed.

Linda wished to be cremated and her ashes laid to rest with her parents in State College, PA.  A celebration of life will be held in June.

The family is so grateful for the kindness and care Linda received from the nurses, doctors, and Hospice care at Riddle. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society or the Brandywine Valley SPCA.
