M. Edward "Ed" Wilson Obituary

M. Edward “Ed” Wilson
March 11, 1949 – November 27, 2022

M. Edward Wilson, of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, much loved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022, after a brief battle with cancer. He was 73 years old.

Ed was born in Philadelphia on March 11, 1949 to the late Edward Asher and Blanche Hill Wilson. He grew up in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, graduated from Lansdowne-Aldan High School in 1967, and attended the University of Pennsylvania. He was a talented athlete at both the high school and collegiate levels in football, wrestling, and tennis. Ed served as a bombing simulator specialist in the United States Air Force. He held many roles in his lifetime, but his helpfulness and interest in computers led him to excel in technical support for the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District, from which he retired in 2012.

He is survived by his dearly loved wife of 53 years, Linda Bolesta Wilson of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania; daughter Kelley Wilson [Kurt Engleman] of Avondale, Pennsylvania; brother Thomas Wilson [Victoria Babish] of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania; sister Ellen Wilson [Donald Katze] of Mountain Top, Pennsylvania; and grandchildren Casey Wilson of Fairfax, Virginia; Jared Wilson of West Palm Beach, Florida; and Kate Engleman of Avondale, Pennsylvania. Ed was preceded in death by his treasured son, Edward Asher Wilson, II. Many other relatives, in-laws, and dear friends grieve his loss.

Ed was a brilliant and original thinker, a lifelong learner, and a true renaissance man. He was interested in absolutely everything and was constantly starting new projects. Where many would become frustrated by a problem, Ed would become excited by the opportunity to develop a solution. He loved traveling, especially by boat, and managed to see five continents in his lifetime. But he was always ready for any adventure, far from or close to home. Throughout his life, he enjoyed outdoor activities and sports including swimming, sailing, tennis, golf, and skiing. With his charm and stellar sense of humor, Ed could become fast friends with anyone. He could fix anything, and those who asked for his help would always receive it. He was adoring and involved with his children and grandchildren, who were his greatest sources of pride.

After a private remembrance, Ed’s ashes will be committed to the sea

Ed loved the ocean and the bay, and would be honored by a donation to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (https://www.cbf.org/index.html).
