Margaret Fowler Kurtz (born Mary Margaret Fowler), of Avondale, Pennsylvania passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the age of 78. She was at home surrounded by family and friends. Margaret was born in Norfolk, Virginia to William “Bill” Fowler and Carolyn (O’Keefe) Fowler. She graduated from Norfolk Catholic High School and attended Radiology school.
Margaret worked as a radiology technician, mammographer and CAT-Scan technician over her long career in the medical field. After her retirement, she began to do volunteer work with the elderly, praying with them, listening to their stories and giving them manicures and pedicures. She would often say “Everyone deserves to feel pretty.”
Margaret will be remembered for so many things. Her sense of humor, her utter devotion to her children, grandchildren, husband, friends and family, her love of goofy hats, her favorite event (the Annual Crab Fest) and her strong Catholic faith. It was often joked that she had a direct line to God, and she started many prayer chains for people she knew and for people who were in need. It is hard to find a picture or think of her without seeing a smile on her face. Even though she had been through so many tough times in her life, she often tried to find the positive or relied on her faith to see her through.
Margaret is survived by her husband of 51 years, Gerald Kurtz, her daughter Caroline (Kurtz) Romeo of Delaware, and her son, John William “David” Kurtz of California. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jack Romeo, Meghan Kurtz and Grant Kurtz, along with countless sons, daughters and grandchildren she “adopted” and treated as her own. She is also survived by her sisters; Ellen (Fowler) Moore of Alabama and Kathleen (Fowler) Hempel of Massachusetts, along with 7 nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brother, William “Terry” Fowler of Virginia.
Visitation with the family will be from 10:00AM to 11:00AM with a Funeral Mass at 11:00AM on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother Catholic Church, 8910 Gap Newport Pike, Avondale, PA. Burial will be private
