Margaret “Margie” Milner
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our mother, Margaret Milner, who passed away on January 23, 2025 at 90 years old. She was born on May 20, 1934 to Robert and Johanna (nee Gehlen) Kohler in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Her husband Ernest “Ernie” Milner was the love of her life. He passed away in 2020. She is survived by her children, Ernest Milner, Lisa Cole, Eric Milner and Christopher Milner. She also had nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. They were all a great source of pride and happiness.
Margie’s sister, Eleanor Zimmers, passed away in 2024. Her sister, Marilyn Allahand continues to live in Philadelphia. She is also survived by many other family members and friends. She loved them all dearly.
Margaret graduated from Frankford High School in Philadelphia. She was awarded the Mayor’s Scholarship to attend the University of Pennsylvania. After graduating from Penn, she touched the lives of children as a teacher. As a TV game show contestant she won the grand prize, a new car. Since Marge and Ernie were just starting out, they wisely accepted cash instead of a car which they used as the downpayment for their first home in the Mayfair area in Philadelphia. When her first child, “Ernie” was born, she devoted her life to being a caring and supportive mother. Her leadership and nurturing spirit led our family until she died.
Margie enjoyed traveling with Ernie. Together they saw many parts of the world: Caribbean cruises, European trips and visiting family all across the country. An avid reader, Margie always had several books on her nightstand. She also liked to play games, especially Bridge and Mahjong with her friends. Watching Jeopardy was a daily ritual as was following the Phillies during baseball season. She inherited a love of music from her father. Listening to arias sung by great tenors brought her joy. Maris Grove’s German language class was one of her favorite activities and she loved the kinship with her classmates. She was known for having the best German accent in her class, perhaps recalling German spoken years ago by her immigrant parents.
Margie is best remembered for her smile, a sweet gesture from a person with a great capacity for caring and loving.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3P on May 10, 2025 at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 109 E Doe Run Rd, Unionville, PA 19375.
