Margaret Ann “Peggy” (Smith) Cook, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, nurse, and devoted volunteer, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2026, at the age of 88.

Peggy was born on March 24, 1938, in Chester, Pennsylvania, to Thomas A. Smith and Margaret (Phillips Jaquette) Smith. She grew up in Chester alongside her brother, Thomas A. Smith II.

She attended Lincoln Elementary School from 1943 to 1950, Smedley Junior High School from 1950 to 1953, and graduated from Chester High School in 1956. Following high school, Peggy pursued her lifelong calling of caring for others by attending Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1959 as a registered nurse.

Peggy began her nursing career at Chester Crozer Medical Center and Methodist Hospital, where she served from 1959 to 1960 as Head Nurse in both the Pediatric Unit and the Medical/Surgical Department. Her compassion, dedication, and leadership touched countless patients and colleagues.

On April 6, 1960, Peggy married the love of her life, Dr. William Cook. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service. After lovingly raising their four children, Peggy returned to work in the office of her husband’s general medical practice in Chester, where she remained until her retirement in 1994.

Peggy and William moved to Delaware, where they lived from 1992 to 1998. During retirement, she enjoyed living at Freedom Village before later making her home at Ovations at Elk Creek.

Faith was a cornerstone of Peggy’s life. She was an active member of Trinity Methodist Church, Parkside Methodist Church, Grove Methodist Church, and Kemmelsville Church, where she faithfully served in numerous ministries and leadership roles throughout the years.

Peggy was deeply committed to serving her community. She volunteered with the Junior Board of Chester Crozer Medical Center, was active in the Doctors’ Wives Organization at Methodist Hospital, served as President of the Friendship Circle at Parkside Methodist Church, participated in Operation Christmas Child, and generously gave her time through bridge groups, the Hills Auction, and the Consignment Shop at Brandywine Hospital. Her servant’s heart and willingness to help others left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.

Above all else, Peggy cherished her family. She is survived by her four children: Beth Johnson (Kevin), Billy Cook (Sharon), Amy Miller (Ray), and Heather Cook.

She was the proud and loving grandmother of Lindsay Johnson Hagelin (Rob), Lauren Johnson Gilliano, Kelly Johnson Humes (Michael), Shane Cook, Ryan Cook (Dani), Regan Cook, Liam Cook, Haley Miller Matos (Danny) and preceded in death by Daniel Miller.

She was also blessed with six great-grandchildren: Sophie Hagelin, Madison Hagelin, Dominic Gilliano, Michael Gilliano, Owen Humes, and Jack Matos, and was joyfully anticipating the arrival of another great-grandchild in the coming weeks.

Peggy will be remembered for her unwavering faith, gentle kindness, compassionate heart, quiet strength, and steadfast devotion to her family, friends, church, and community. Her legacy of love, service, and generosity will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love.

Visitation with the family will be from 10AM to 11AM with a memorial service at 11AM on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at the "Auditorium Vista Ridge" at Ware Presbyterian Village, 1163 Kensington Lane, Oxford, PA.
