Marie Carmella LaPelusa (nee DeSantis) of Kennett Square, PA and formerly of Bayonne and Galloway Township, NJ died peacefully at Chester County Hospital after a long series of illness over the last 2+ years. She was 84 years old. She battled valiantly and overcame many of her illnesses due to her strong will, faith, and good care. The chronic illnesses became overwhelming over the past month.
Marie lived most of her life in Bayonne NJ. She attended Washington Elementary School and Bayonne High School. Marie married John LaPelusa, in June of 1959, and had 2 sons, John and Gary. Marie moved to Galloway Township NJ, to her dream home with her husband and enjoyed almost 20 years there. Following her husband's death, Marie made Kennett Square and Brandywine Assisted Living her home.
Marie worked at The Bayonne Times, Hunt-Wesson Food and enjoyed a long career working for the Navy and the Army at the Military Ocean Terminal in Bayonne, NJ, where she started in the typing pool and retired as a financial analyst.
Her husband John, predeceased her in 2015 after 56 years of marriage. She is survived by her son, John LaPelusa, RPh; his wife, Ellen and their 3 adult children, Laura Feininger and her husband, Chad, John James LaPelusa, DPM and Chris LaPelusa. She is also survived by her son, Bayonne City Council President, Gary LaPelusa, Sr., (his predeceased wife, Cherie) and their children, Gary LaPelusa, Jr. and his wife, Paige, David LaPelusa, Jennifer LaPelusa and her fiancé, Dale Thomas and Gianna LaPelusa; 4 great grandchildren, Eleanor, Noah, Nicolas and Harper also survive her.
Marie liked making friends at the various places she and John lived and was very active in the community both enjoying crafting and teaching crafts to others. She was also famous for her delicious cooking. She was always engaged in her Catholic faith and left a lasting impression on many of the people she encountered in many ways.
She will be remembered as a great Mom, Grandma and Big Grandma and for her generous spirit, engaging with friends in various activities. She is most known for her love of family and getting and keeping the family together.
A viewing will be from 10:00AM until 1130AM on Friday, December 1, 2023 at the LONGWOOD FUNERAL HOME & CREAMTION of MATTHEW GENEREUX, 913 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square, PA. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 12:00PM on Friday, December 1, 2023 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 212 Meredith Street, Kennett Square. Entombment with Catholic committal will be at 11:00AM on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Holy Cross Mausoleum, 5061 Harding Highway, Mays Landing, NJ. {NOTE: the cemetery service being held on separate day from funeral.}
