Michael J. Robinson

Obituary

Michael John Robinson, age 72, died peacefully at home on Wednesday August 28, 2024, with his family by his side.  Michael was born on December 6, 1951, in Wiesbaden, Germany to Robert and Berta Robinson.  Michael is the oldest of three siblings.  He grew up living in various countries, including France, Germany, and Spain.  He developed a love of history, the outdoors, and helping others. In 1976, Michael graduated from the Virginia Commonwealth University with a master's degree in social work. He then began his long and illustrious career as a social worker for the United States government spanning 43 years.  He spent the majority of his career as a social worker for the US Army advocating for children and their families.  In 2018, Michael was awarded the Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service for his exceptional service.

Michael and his beloved wife, Inge, married in 2004.  They spent 20 loving years together in Germany and the United States.  Michael and Inge were inseparable and shared a love for music, travel, and family.  They especially loved time with their grandchildren and great nieces and great nephews.  Michael and Inge's marriage was an example to all of true love and devotion.

Michael was an avid outdoorsman.  He loved fishing, boating, and being outside with his grandchildren. He was skilled in playing chess and taught his grandsons the game while never letting them win.  He also shared his love of model trains with his grandchildren, great nieces, and great nephews.

With appreciation and gratitude, Michael’s family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care he received from Penn Medicine throughout his extended illness.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania.
