Nancy Jordan Hanway, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away on September 29, 2025 at the age of 89. Born on March 20, 1936, in Mortonville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Isaiah T. Jordan and Sarah H. Jordan.
A lifelong resident of Chester County, Nancy graduated from Unionville High School in 1954, where she met the love of her life, Donald (Don) E. Hanway, Jr. They were married on September 15, 1957, and built a beautiful life together near London Grove before settling in their home in Unionville in July 1964. Don passed away in 2015, after 58 years of marriage.
Nancy began her career working as a secretary in the Psychology Office at Embreeville State Hospital. She joined Patton Middle School in 1973, where she worked for over thirty years as a paraprofessional and secretary, touching the lives of countless students and staff with her warmth, dedication, and kindness.
Faith was central to Nancy’s life. She was an active member of Doe Run Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School, and later joined Don’s church, Bethany Presbyterian Church in Mendenhall, PA.
Nancy was a devoted and loving mother to Lori, Barbara (Barb), and Scott, and a loving mother-in-law to Sharon. Her greatest joy came from her role as grandmother, “Grammie" to Jamie Testa (Greg), Jodi Chubb (Andrew), Thomas Hammond (Jillian), Paige Meyers (Derek), Kaylee Hanway, and Zachary Hanway (Hannah), and as great-grandmother to Adelyn, Kinsley, Sloane, Grady, and Kendall.
She was a beloved Aunt to many cherished nieces and nephews. In addition to Don and her parents, she is predeceased by her siblings, Paul Jordan, Edward Jordan, Helen Boyle, Jack Jordan, I. Thomas Jordan and Peggy Musser.
A woman of many interests and a generous spirit, Nancy was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star, a life member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, dedicated member of the East Marlborough Auxiliary of Chester County Hospital, and a volunteer for the Unionville Community Fair.
Nancy found joy in life’s simple pleasures—reading, knitting, bird watching, having lunch with friends, visiting loved ones, and playing games with her grandchildren. Her warmth, gentle nature, and unwavering love for her family and friends will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
Visitation will be from 10:00AM until 11:00AM with a memorial service at 11:00AM on Friday, November 21, 2025 at the Longwood Funeral Home & Cremation of Matthew Genereux, 913 East Baltimore Pike in Kennett Square. Burial will be private.
